Dry Needling Dry needling (DN) is the application of a thin monofilament needle to penetrate the skin, fascia, and muscle to stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. The mechanical application of the needle creates a local inflammatory process which in turns stimulates increased circulation to the area bringing. This allows for the influx of cellular factors which can modulate pain, stimulate nerve and muscle growth, and even increase vascularization. Local, segmental, and systemic effects can be produced through the proper application of the needles, for the appropriate amount of time, with or without electrical stimulation.
